The palinurid genus Linuparus White, 1847, has been represented by a single recent species, Linuparus trigonus (Von Siebold). The trawl survey of the northern shelf region of the South China Sea at present being carried out by the R.V. "Cape St. Mary" of the Fisheries Research Station, Hong Kong, has produced numerous examples of this species. Amongst old collections of Crustacea at the Fisheries Research Station, a single example of a specimen of Linuparus was found early in 1963, which showed numerous differences from the specimens obtained on the trawl survey. This specimen lacked data and was badly damaged, making a full comparison with Linuparus trigonus impossible. In January 1964, a second specimen was obtained which confirmed the constancy of the... |

The marine caridean fauna of East Africa has been little studied. Prior to World War 1, German authors produced a number of general studies but the emphasis of these papers was on crabs. Most of the carideans are reported from Zanzibar. Hilgendorf (1869) reported two unidentified species of Alpheus from Zanzibar. Pfeffer (1889) reported Coralliocaris graminea also from Zanzibar and in 1894 Ortmann added the hippolytid Saron marmoratus. Lenz (1905) reported three pontoniine shrimps, two hippolytids and six alpheids from Zanzibar. In 1905 also, Nobili reported Gelastocaris paronae from Zanzibar. The first World War terminated these studies and there seems to have been little further interest until Taramelli (1955) reported again on the crustacea of Zanzibar,... |

In a recent paper preliminary descriptions were given of ten new species of the genus Periclimenaeus Borradaile from the Indo-West-Pacific region (Bruce, 1969). The recent acquisition of further material has provided three new species of the same genus from the Great Barrier Reef and two other new species have also been discovered. Preliminary descriptions of these new species, based primarily on the undissected holotype specimens, are now provided. All specimens, whose hosts were noted, were obtained from sponges, some of which are in the process of identification. The holotype specimens will be deposited in the collections of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie, Leiden, except where they are part of the collections of another museum. Periclimenaeus... |

Data are presented upon a small collection of eight species of pontoniine shrimp from Aqaba, Jordan, two of which, Periclimenes longicarpus and Hamodactylus aqabai are new species. Five of the six other species have not been previously recorded from the Red Sea. The pontoniine shrimp fauna of the Red Sea is discussed and keys for the identification of anemone and alcyonarian associated species of Periclimenes are provided. |

The genus Podophthalmus Lamarck, 1801, includes only three species, one of which, Podophthalmus minabensis, has only recently been described by Sakai (1962) from a single damaged specimen collected from the coast of Japan. A second specimen, collected by the R.V. "Cape St. Mary" of the Fisheries Research Station, Hong Kong, from off the coast of Sarawak enables the description of the species to be completed and adds to the knowledge of its distribution. The specimen has been deposited at the British Museum (Natural History), London. Podophthalmus minabensis Sakai (fig. 1-2) Podophthalmus minabensis Sakai, 1962: 144, text-fig. 2e, pl. 3 fig. 1. Material examined. — 1 ♀, non-ovigerous, lacking left first pereiopod. Off Sarawak, Borneo, 20 51.5'Ν 110° 16.8'E... |

The study of the pontoniid fauna of the Indo-West-Pacific region has resulted in the discovery of numerous undescribed species of the genus Periclimenes Costa, 1844. A revision of this genus, the largest in the subfamily, at present in progress, cannot be completed for some time and it is considered advisable to provide preliminary descriptions of the species concerned. The brief descriptions and remarks given here will enable the species to be identified and may contribute to their recognition in other parts of their ranges, pending their full description and illustration. Most of the species described are commensally associated with other marine invertebrates. One species is thought to be free-living, eight were found in association with coelenterates... |

The study of the pontoniid fauna of the Indo-West-Pacific region has resulted in the discovery of a number of undescribed species of the genus Periclimenaeus Borradaile, 1915. A revision of this genus, the second largest in the subfamily, at present in progress, cannot be completed for some time and it is considered advisable to provide preliminary descriptions of the species concerned, as has been done in the case of the genus Periclimenes Costa (Bruce, 1969). The brief descriptions and remarks given here will enable the species to be identified and may further contribute to their recognition in other parts of their ranges, pending their full description and illustration. All the specimens described are commensals of marine invertebrates. Most were... |

Recently made collections have indicated that the pontoniid shrimp fauna of the east coast of Australia, including the Great Barrier Reef, is still poorly known. Material obtained by the staff of the Australian Museum from their collections at One Tree Island and Heron Island in the Capricorn Group on the Great Barrier Reef has provided some interesting material new to the Australian fauna and their collections have provided specimens of Periclimenes lanipes which were collected by the Fisheries Investigation Ship "Endeavour", but not included in the report on the Decapoda Natantia by Schmitt (1926). With two exceptions the remaining species included in this report are also new to the Australian fauna and four are known only from the original type... |
